Softball reaches 20-win plateau with victory over Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Stevenson University softball team split a pair of games with the University of Mary Washington in non-conference play on Tuesday. 

In the first game, the Eagles plated two in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-2 win, while the Mustangs (20-8) defeated UMW (9-23) 11-6 in the nightcap. 

Game 1 - Mary Washington 3, Stevenson 2
After the host Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first, Stevenson struck back with one back in the third as McKenzie Tobler doubled to left scoring Caylee Cliett. In the fourth, Danielle Mills singled through the left side, scoring Rebecca Henry

Tobler and Tessa Boswell each had two hits, while Henry, Mill and Cliett all had hits in game one. 

Angelica Gurevich took the loss, falling to 7-3. She struck out six and walked four in six innings of work. 

Game 2 - Stevenson 11, Mary Washington 6
Trailing 4-0 after two, Stevenson roared back with four in the third to tie the score. Rebecca Maiorano tripled down the left field line, scoring Henry and Mykaela Getz. Ava Stafursky then flied out to center, scoring Maiorano. A single from Mills scored Henry tying the score at 4-all. 

After the Eagles recaptured the lead at 6-4, Stevenson scored five runs in the sixth to take a 9-6 lead. Tobler doubled to left scoring Maddie Buher, while Tobler later scored on a fielding error to tie the score at 6-all. 

A two-run single from Henry scored Maiorano and Getz, followed by Teagan Kreshik scoring on a passed ball. 

Maiorano singled through the left side in the seventh scoring Tobler and Sahara Ward

Tobler, Maiorano, Henry each had three hits each, with Getz, Boswell and Mills getting two hits a piece. 

Ky Vaughn got the win in relief of Alexis Kirkessner. Vaughn went five innings, striking out one also allowing just four hits in five innings of work. 

Stevenson will host York College of Pennsylvania on Friday.
