OWINGS MILLS, Md – The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (9-3 Overall, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth) took down the Hood Blazers (7-3 Overall, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth) on Wednesday evening in Mustang Stadium, 17-6.
Taz Delaney opened scoring on the evening with a goal at 13:13. The Blazers responded with a goal 20 seconds later, but
Darrell Curtis replied and netted a goal off a pass from
Gavin Gossen to put Stevenson up 2-1. At 6:21, Gossen put up Stevenson's third goal of the contest with an assist from Curtis. Gossen followed with another goal a minute and a half later, as Darrell followed netting Stevenson's fifth goal and notched his 100
th career-point at the 4:01 mark. Before the first quarter concluded,
Grant Zick slotted a goal with four seconds left on the clock to slot a 6-1 lead.
The Blazers opened scoring of the second quarter with their second goal of the contest at the 6:33 mark. With under four minutes to play,
Andrew Searing put away a goal with an assist from
Max Racich to put Stevenson up 7-2 at halftime.
Searing opened scoring with a ball from
Grant Zick to start off the second half, followed by another goal from Gossen. Hood responded with their third goal, but Gossen replied a minute and a half later with Stevenson's 10
th goal while registering his 100
th career-point. The Blazers netted their fourth goal at 6:45, but Searing followed with a man-up goal to put the Mustangs up 11-4 heading into the fourth quarter.
Curtis put up the first goal of the final quarter at the 12-minute mark, the Blazers followed with back-to-back goals, but the Mustangs retaliated with a five-goal run. Delaney put the 13
th goal away for the Mustangs followed by goals from Racich, Zick, Searing, and
Dillon Linhardt to finalize the Mustangs win at 17-6.
Curtis led the team with a six-point night with a hat trick and three assists, as Gossen follows with five points and leads the ground balls column with seven on the night. Zick followed with a pair of goals and assists, as Searing found the back of the cage four times. Delaney contributed two goals for Stevenson as Racich and Linhardt tallied one.
Tyler Merchant stood in goal making six saves on the night.
Stevenson prepares to travel north to face Alvernia on Saturday evening. First face-off is slated for 7 p.m.
