READING, Pa. - The Stevenson University softball team earned another Commonwealth Conference doubleheader sweep on Saturday, as the Mustangs (17-5, 5-3) defeated Albright (3-17, 0-8).
The Mustangs held on in game one, 4-3, while winning game two by a score of 10-2 in six innings.
Game 1 - Stevenson 3, Albright 2
Stevenson struck early scoring three runs in the first inning, as Ava Stafursky hit a two-run home run scoring McKenzie Tobler, followed by Rebecca Henry scoring an error.
Rebecca Maiorano then singled to right in the fifth, scoring Tobler for a 4-1 lead. Albright plated two runs in the seventh to get within one before Angelica Gurevich struck out a Lions batter with the bases loaded.
Tobler, Maiorano and Stafursky all hit safely, with Maiorano getting a RBI and Stafursky having two.
Gurevich got the win, improving to 6-1. She struck out six and walked three in a complete game win.
Game 2 - Stevenson 10, Albright 2 (6 innings)
Stevenson broke open the game with two runs in the fifth, coming back from a 2-1 deficit. The Mustangs then scored seven runs in the sixth to break the game wide open.
Tobler scored in the first to give Stevenson a 1-0 lead as she scored on an error. After Albright tied the game in the second, the Lions took a 2-1 lead in the fourth.
In the fifth, Tobler singled up the middle scoring Maddie Buher tying the score at 2. Sahara Ward would then score on a sacrifice fly by Stafursky, giving the Mustangs a 3-2 lead.
In the sixth, Ward, Tobler, Stafursky, Henry, Tessa Boswell and Danielle Mills all had RBI in the inning.
Tobler, Mills each had three hits in the game, while Mykaela Getz, Boswell and Ward all had two hits.
Alexis Kirkessner got the win, improving to 6-3. She had two strikeouts and allowed just four hits and two earned runs.
Stevenson will host local rival McDaniel on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
