Gossen slots eight-point game as No. 12 Men’s Lacrosse deals MAC Commonwealth loss to Eastern

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The No. 12 Stevenson men's lacrosse team (7-3 Overall, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth defeated the Eastern Eagles (4-7 Overall, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth) 23-8 on Saturday evening. Gavin Gossen led the Mustangs offensively with an eight-point night. 
 
Dillon Linhardt opened scoring on the evening off a pass from Andrew Searing at 10:33 in the first quarter, followed by unassisted goals from Hunter Bryant and Max Racich to put the Mustangs up 3-0. Bryant put his second unassisted goal away at 4:52 to slot a 4-0 lead for the Mustangs and force the Eagles to take their first timeout. Gossen then put Stevenson's fifth goal on the board with just under four minutes to play in the first quarter, as Racich followed with another goal with an assist from Gossen. With under two and a half minutes to play, Bryant and Graeme McCrory each registered a goal, as Eastern finally responded with 10 seconds on the clock to make it an 8-1 game at the conclusion of the first quarter. 
 
Bryant opened scoring of the second half, 40 seconds in with an assist from Grant Zick. The Eagles netted their second goal of the evening at 13:27, as Searing put the ball away in the top right corner off a pass from Zick. Eastern replied with their third goal at 11:44 to make it a 10-3 lead. Taz Delaney found the back of the cage with just under nine minutes left in the half, followed by another goal from Gossen. Racich netted one last goal at the 1:20 in the quarter to put the Mustangs up 13-3 at halftime. 
 
Less than a minute into the third quarter, Darrell Curtis found the back of the net off a pass from Delaney, and about two minutes later Gossen posted another goal with an assist from Curtis to slot a 15-3 lead. At 9:40, Gossen netted a goal off a ball from Zick, as Eastern responded about a minute later with another goal. Gossen then put his fifth goal away at 7:31 off a ball from Rachich to make it a 17-4 game. Eastern then found back of the net three more times to make it a 17-7 game heading into the final quarter. 
 
Delaney slotted the first goal of the fourth quarter with a pass from Searing at the 12-minute mark, as Linhardt followed with another goal with an assist from Searing. At 8:08, Bryant put his fifth of the contest in the back of the cage to make it a 20-7 game. Linhardt snagged a man-up goal at the 5:10 mark to slot a hat trick on the night, as the Eagles replied less than a minute later to make it 21-8. At the 2:18 mark, Linhardt netted his fourth goal of the night with an assist from Bryant followed by a goal from Matt Byron assisted by Luke Wetzel to cap off the 23-8 win.
 
Gossen led with an eight-point game with five goals and three assists, as Bryant slotted six points with five goals and an assist. Zick posted five assists on the night, as Linhardt netted four goals. Racich snagged a hat trick while dishing out an assist, as Delaney and Searing each contributed a three-point game. Tyler Merchant made 10 saves on the evening, as Nicholas Parolin also spent time in net but faced no shots on goal. 
 
The Mustangs will remain at home as they host the Hood College Blazers in Mustang Stadium on Wednesday evening. First face-off is set for 7 p.m.
