OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The No. 2 seeded Stevenson men's lacrosse team took down the No. 3 seed, Eastern Eagles 18-7 on Wednesday night in Mustang stadium in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals.
Stevenson opened the game with four straight goals with the help of
Grant Zick,
Andrew Searing, and
Gavin Gossen. Eastern put their first goal of the match up away at 3:23 in the first, but the Mustangs held a 4-1 lead at the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter, the Mustangs put away seven goals, while holding the Eagles to three. Gossen and
Max Racich put up two goals each, as Zick, Searing, and
Jack Scaliti each put a goal away to slot a 11-4 lead at half time.
The Mustangs started the second half with another string of four goals, with goals from Racich, Gossen,
Alexander Wilson, and
Dillon Linhardt. Eastern replied with two goals, but
Darrell Curtis and
Graeme McCrory each put a ball in the back of the net to notch a 17-6 lead at the end of the third quarter.
The Eagles put the first goal of the fourth quarter away at 12:39, but Wilson slotted one last goal to cap off the 18-7 win for Stevenson.
Gossen led the Mustangs with a seven-point night with four goals and three assists, as Zick and Wilson grabbed a pair of goals and assists. Searing slotted a hat trick on the night with an assist, as Racich put away a hat trick. Scaliti and McCrory each contributed a goal for the Mustangs.
Connor Dunay led the ground balls column with 11 on the night, as
Tyler Merchant led Stevenson in goal with 13 saves.
The Mustangs will prepare to travel to York, Pa. on Saturday to face the No. 1 seeded York Spartans in the MAC Commonwealth Championship. First face-off is slated for 3 p.m.
