Women’s Lacrosse drops to No. 8 Spartans in road contest

YORK, Pa. – The Stevenson women's lacrosse team (9-6 Overall, 3-2 MAC Commonwealth) fell to the No. 8 York (Pa.) Spartans (11-3 Overall, 4-0 MAC Commonwealth) on Tuesday afternoon, 15-7. 
 
In the first quarter, the Spartans netted seven straight goals to notch a 7-0 lead. In the second quarter, York put away a string of three goals, but Marisa Massimini netted goal at 1:49 to halt the Spartans scoring streak. Ava Treakle then netted a goal with just two seconds on the clock with an assist from Sophia Murray to make it a 10-2 game at half with the Spartans leading. 
 
The Spartans started off the third quarter with a goal at the 10:42 mark, as Olivia Galati followed with a goal less than a minute later. York replied with two more goals to cap off the 13-3 lead heading into the final quarter. 
 
York opened scoring of the fourth quarter less than a minute in, but Katherine Friedman put Stevenson's fourth goal on the board as Kara Yarusso added a fifth with seven minutes to play. Treakle then put away another goal for the Mustangs off a pass from Murray, but the Spartans replied with another goal. At 2:06, Galati put away her second goal of the afternoon with an assist from Hailey Johnson, but despite the Mustangs efforts, York walked with the 15-7 win. 
 
Treakle and Galati led the Mustangs with a two-goal night, as Murray dished out two assists, and Yarusso put up a goal and an assist. Massimini and Friedman each posted a goal in the contest, as Johnson handed out an assist. Anna Johnston and Regan Torbert split time in net on the afternoon with six saves. 
 
The Mustangs will prepare to travel to Reading, Pa. to battle Albright on Wednesday, Apr. 23. First draw is set got 6 p.m.
