MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Stevenson University baseball team closed its Southern trip on Saturday by scoring 21 runs in a 21-9 win over New England College.
Kaige Garrity hit for the cycle as the Mustangs plated 17 hits and scored nine times in the sixth inning on the way to the win.
Garrity tripled in the third, homered in the third, doubled in the fourth and singled in the fifth. He finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, driving in three runs and scoring five. Dalton Reinhart had four hits as well, going 4-for-4 at the plate with five RBI.
Nick Griffin, Vincent Licor and John Padousis each had two hits, with Christopher Manco, Jaylon Surell and Sam Batiancila all hitting safely. The Mustangs had eight doubles and three home runs as Licor and Reinhart joined Garrity in hitting one over the fence.
The 21 runs were more than enough for the Mustang pitching staff, as Sommers Turner went 2.2 innings to get the win, striking out three and walking two. Charlie Wentker started, striking out two and walking four in 2.2 innings of work.
Brendan Phillips went .2 innings, allowing just one hit, while Mason Gove struck out three batters in one inning.
Trailing 5-1, Garrity's homer in the third plated two runs, followed by a home run from Reinhart to cut the deficit to 5-4. Garrity's fourth inning double scored Batiancila to tie the score at 5-all, with Reinhart doubling in the fourth to score Garrity and Griffin for a 7-5 lead.
Stevenson's nine run sixth saw Licor homer and double in the inning.
Stevenson is back at home on Wednesday as the Mustangs host Lebanon Valley.
