Softball splits with Marymount

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson University softball split a pair of games with Atlantic East opponent Marymount University on Wednesday.

The Mustangs (11-3) defeated the Saints (5-12) 5-3 in game one, while the Saints handed Stevenson an 11-2 loss in game two. 

Game 1 - Stevenson 5, Marymount 3
Stevenson built a 5-1 lead through six innings and was able to fend off a late Saints rally top capture the opener. 

In the first, Rebecca Henry singled to right scoring McKenzie Tobler for a 1-0 lead, followed a three-run single from Danielle Mills that scored Ava Stafursky, Tessa Boswell and Henry. 

In the second, Rebecca Maiorano reached on an error, scoring Sahara Ward for a 5-0 lead. 

In the seventh, leading 5-3, starting pitcher Angelica Gurevich was able to get a fly out with two runners on to end the game. 

Gurevich moved to 4-0 on the season, striking out three and walking one in seven innings of work. 

Game 2 - Marymount 11, Stevenson 2
The nightcap saw Marymount race out to a 7-0 lead after 3.5 innings, before Tobler's double in the bottom of the fourth scored Mills and Boswell for the lone runs of the game for Stevenson.

Mills and Mykaela Getz had two hits each in game two.

Alexis Kirkessner took the loss, allowing four runs in three innings of work. She struck out two and walked three. Grace Briggs threw .2 innings in relief, while Ky Vaughn went 2.1 innings in the circle.

Stevenson heads to Messiah on Saturday.
