OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson University baseball team scored four runs in the last three innings as the Mustangs (7-15) wrangled the Notre Dame of Maryland University Gators (3-11) 7-2 on Wednesday in a midweek matinee.Â
The Mustangs, who defeated NDMU for the second time this season, got three hits from Nick Griffin and Collin Palmieri, while John Padousis had two hits as did Dalton Reinhart.Â
Charlie Wentker picked up his first win of the season on the mound, going five innings as he struck out four and walked three while allowing just one earned run.Â
Stevenson struck first in the third, as Padousis hit a two-run double scoring Palmieri and Reinhart. After the Gators got one back in the fifth, Reinhart hit a sacrifice fly to right allowing Griffin to score from second.Â
Leading 3-1, Connor Wilkerson tripled to right field scoring Brandon Perillo for a 4-1 lead in the sixth, with Griffin hitting a RBI single to right scoring Wilkerson for the 5-1 edge.Â
In the seventh, Perillo filed out to right scoring Palmieri for a 6-1 lead, with Reinhart hitting a RBI single in the eighth to score Griffin.
Sommers Turner and Mason Gove allowed two hits each in relief of Wentker, while Ari Lonstein pitched the ninth allowing just one earned run.Â
Stevenson begins its weekend series with Messiah on Friday in Grantham.Â
