Eight Mustangs net goals in road win over Neumann

ASTON, Pa. – The Stevenson women's lacrosse squad (6-4) slotted a 17-11 win over Neumann Knights (4-6) on Tuesday afternoon to close out regular season nonconference play. 
 
Erin Seinberg opened scoring on the day off a ball from Isabelle VanEmburgh at the 13:03 mark, as VanEmburgh found the back of the net a minute and a half later with an assist from Olivia Galati. Neumann replied with two back-to-back goals, but Galati put away a third goal for the Mustangs to put Stevenson ahead 3-2 at the end of the first quarter. 
 
Katherine Friedman netted her first goal of the season with an assist from Kellyann Coccia. At 12:44 on the clock Neumann put their third goal away, but Sophia Murray responded to make it a 5-3 game. The Knights retaliated with two goals to tie the contest 5-5 with just under nine minutes left in the half. Coccia then slotted another goal to put the Mustangs ahead, but Neumann then tied it 6-6. Stevenson then put their foot on the gas and went on a five-goal string. Steinberg, Coccia, Murray, and Ava Treakle all netted goals and put Stevenson up 11-6 at halftime.
 
In the third quarter, the Knights dominated more offensively, outscoring the Mustangs 4-1. Treakle put the lone Mustang goal away in the third quarter, as the Knights put away four goals. Stevenson held onto their lead and kept it a 12-10 game heading into the final quarter.
 
Kara Yarusso opened scoring of the fourth quarter with an unassisted goal, followed by a goal from Steinberg with an assist from Coccia. Yarusso would net two more goals, as Steinberg would put one more in the back of the net. Neumann managed to sneak one more goal away in the fourth quarter, but Stevenson capped off the 17-11 win. 
 
Steinberg led Stevenson with a six-point game with five goals and an assist, as Coccia posted a five-point day with two goals and three assists. Yarusso slotted a hat trick and handed out an assist on the day as VanEmburgh and Galati each tallied a goal and two assists. Treakle and Murray both put away two goals for Stevenson, as Murray also picked up 11 draw controls. VanEmburgh led the caused turnovers column, as Murray led with four ground balls. Anna Johnston and Regan Torbert split time in the crease for a combined 12 saves. 
 
The Mustangs prepare to jump into MAC Commonwealth play with their first conference contest on Saturday against No. 24 Messiah. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m. in Mustang Stadium.
