Softball upends Hood to move to 3-1 in Commonwealth play

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson University softball team moved to 3-1 in Commonwealth play on Tuesday, sweeping a doubleheader from Hood College.

In game one, Stevenson scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to walk off the Blazers, 5-4, while shutting out Hood (10-10, 2-2 MACC ) 8-0 in six innings in the nightcap.

Game 1 – Stevenson 5, Hood 4

Tessa Boswell's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh scored Mya Lamp to give the Mustangs the win. Stevenson had rallied to take a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth in RBI singles from Caylee Cliett and Sahara Ward, before Hood scored one in the seventh on an error.

Hood led 2-0 after two innings, before McKenzie Tobler singled to right scoring Ward to make the score 2-1 after three. In the fifth, Mykaela Getz singled to right scoring Teagan Kreshik tying the score at 2-all.

Cliett and Ward finished with two hits each in the first game.

Angelica Gurevich got the win, moving two 3-0 on the year. She struck out six and walked three in seven innings.

Game 2- Stevenson 8, Hood 0 (6 innings)

Stevenson cranked out 11 hits in game 2, highlighted by a two-run homerun from Boswell in the sixth inning. Rebecca Maiorano had three hits with Ava Stafursky and Boswell having two.

The eight runs were more than enough for Alexis Kirkessner, who allowed just two hits while striking out one and walking three. She improved to 5-1 on the season.

Stevenson returns home tomorrow (Wednesday, March 26) hosting Marymount at 3 p.m.
