Baseball walks off Widener in game two of twinbill, 7-6

OWINGS MILLS, Md.  Liam Houghton's pinch hit single in the bottom of ninth lifted Stevenson (6-15, 2-4 MACC) to a 7-6 win over Widener (12-8, 5-1 MACC) in game two of a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader at The Yard on Saturday.

In game one, Widener blanked Stevenson 4-0.

Game 1 – Widener 4, Stevenson 0

Stevenson was limited to six hits in the opener, as Collin Palmieri had two hits, as did Sam Batiancila. John Padousis and Brandon Perillo also hit safely in the opener.

John Delgado took the loss, falling to 1-4. In six innings, he struck out nine and walked three while allowing four earned runs. Ari Lonstein walked one in one inning in relief.

Game 2 – Stevenson 7, Widener 6

After spotting Widener a 2-0 lead following the second inning, Dalton Reinhart hit a three-run homerun to right field scoring Nick Griffin and Connor Wilkerson to give the Mustangs a 3-2 edge.

Widener plated four runs in the sixth to take a 6-3 lead, before Kaige Garrity homered in the eighth to get the Mustangs within two at 6-4.

In the ninth, John Padousis walked and ball four got away from the Pride catcher, allowing pinch runner Zack Majeski to score on a wild pitch cutting the Mustang deficit to 6-5.

Graham Sears walked in the tying run as Garrity scored to knot the score at 6-all, before Houghton's RBI single to right sent the crowd home happy.

Palmieri was 4-or-4 with a walk, while Reinhart, Matt Perri and Wilkerson each had two hits.

Sommers Turner got the win, improving to 2-0 as he retired one batter in the ninth. Zane Stone got the start, striking out three in 5.1 innings of work. Mason Gove pitched 3.1 innings, striking out two and walking two.

Stevenson is slated to host Notre Dame of Maryland on Wednesday.
