CHESTER, Pa. – Widener scored three times in the second, sixth and eight innings as the Pride (11-7, 4-0) defeated Stevenson (5-14, 1-3) 10-5 in the opener of their three-game series on Friday.
Collin Palmieri was 3-for-6 with two RBI and a run scored, while Liam Houghton was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Kaige Garrity had two RBI, while Matt Perri drove in a run for the Mustangs who collected ten hits.
Stevenson took an early 2-0 lead in the first as Garrity singled to left driving in Nick Griffin and Houghton. Trailing 3-2 after two, Stevenson tied the score in the third as Palmieri singled to center scoring Griffin.
The Mustangs cut the deficit to two at 7-5 in the eighth as Perri was hit by a pitch scoring Graham Sears. Palmieri had a double in the seventh that scored Sam Batiancila.
Jake Treasure took the loss, striking out six and walking three in four innings of work.
Stevenson and Widener finish their series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon.
