Softball continues torrid start with sweep on final day in South Carolina

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Stevenson University softball ended its run in South Carolina with two wins over St. Joe's of Long Island and Maine-Farmington to improve its conference best record to 10-1.

The Mustangs defeated St. Joe's 6-1 in game one, then defeated Maine-Farmington 10-2 in five innings in the second game.

Game 1 – Stevenson 6, St. Joe's 1
Stevenson scored three times in the bottom of the second, and the bottom of the fourth en route to the win. McKenzie Tobler walked in a run as Tessa Boswell scored, followed by a two-run single from Mykaela Getz that scored Sahara Ward and Maddie Buher.

In the fourth, Getz hit a sacrifice fly that scored Buher followed by a RBI single from Rebecca Henry that scored Ward. Tobler would later score on a RBI single by Boswell.

Getz finished with two hits and three RBI, while Henry, Boswell, Danielle Mills, Buher and Ward all hit safely.

Ky Vaughn went six innings, allowing just one run and five hits while walking one.

Lilly Tinker pitched a scoreless seventh, striking out and walking one.

Game 2 – Stevenson 10, Maine-Farmington 2 (5 innings)

After giving up a run in the top of the first, Stevenson plated four runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead for good.

Henry singled home Rebecca Maiorano, followed by a RBI single from Boswell that scored Ava Stafursky. Henry then stole home for a 3-1 lead, while Boswell scored on a RBI single from Mills.

In the third, Henry scored on an error.

Stevenson plated two runs in the fourth as Tobler scored on a RBI single by Getz while later scoring on a RBI single by Maiorano.

In the fifth, Boswell scored on an error on a ball hit by Ward, with Caylee Cliett and Ward both scoring on wild pitches.

Alexis Kirkessner went the complete game, striking out five and walking five in five innings.

Stevenson returns North to take on Widener in Commonwealth play on Saturday.
