Softball moves to 8-1 with win over UMPI; Drops decision to Oswego

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Stevenson University softball team improved to 8-1 on the season, continuing its best start in school history after two games on Tuesday.

In the first game, Stevenson defeated Maine-Presque Isle 13-0 in five innings, before dropping its first game of the season 4-3 to Oswego State.

Game 1 – Stevenson 13, Maine-Presque Isle 0 (5 innings)

Stevenson scored in every inning, collecting 15 hits en route to its second win over UMPI in three days.

Tessa Boswell was 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in the win, while Maddie Buher had two hits. McKenzie Tobler had two RBI, as did Sophia Presto and Danielle Mills.

Angelica Gurevich got the win, striking out ten and allowing just three hits in the win.

Game 2 – Oswego State 4, Stevenson 3

The Lakers scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, after Stevenson had scored two in the top of the fame to take a 3-2 lead.

Stevenson led 1-0 after the first at Rebecca Henry singled to center scoring Mykaela Getz.

Trailing 2-1 in the seventh, Boswell doubled to center scoring Mya Lamp to tie the score, before Tobler hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Boswell.

Sahara Ward went 2-for-3, while Rebecca Maiorano, Henry, Caylee Cliett and Boswell also collected hits.

Alexis Kirkessner took the loss in relief of Grace Briggs. Briggs went six innings, striking out one. Kirkessner gave up two runs in one-third of an inning.

Stevenson concludes its stay in the Palmetto State on Wednesday with games against St. Joe's of Long Island and Maine-Farmington.
