Softball pitches two shutouts on Day One in South Carolina

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Stevenson University softball team opened its Spring Break Trip in South Carolina with a pair of shutouts over Maine-Presque Isle and Mount Saint Vincent.

The Mustangs (7-0) defeated UMPI 10-0 in six innings in game one, before blanking Mount Saint Vincent 6-0 in game two.

Game 1 – Stevenson 10, UMPI 0 (6 innings)

Stevenson wasted no time in the first game, plating nine runs in the top of the first en route to the win.

McKenzie Tobler scored the first run of the game on a bases loaded walk by Ava Stafursky. Mykaela Getz then scored on an error for a 2-0 lead, followed by a two-run double from Tessa Boswell that scored Stafursky and Rebecca Maiorano.

Rebecca Henry would later score on a single by Danielle Mills, with Boswell scoring on a passed ball.

A two-run single from Getz scored Maddie Buher and Mills for an 8-0 lead, with Sahara Ward scoring on a passed ball for a 9-0.

Mya Lamp scored in the fourth on a single by Teagan Kreshik.

The runs were more than enough for Ky Vaughn, who struck out four and allowed just four hits in five innings of work.

Game 2- Stevenson 6, Mount Saint Vincent 0

Stevenson scored twice in the fourth as Mills doubled home Henry and Stafursky. Maiorano scored on an error in the fifth for a 3-0 lead, with Tobler hitting a run-scoring single in the seventh to score Buher.

Stafursky would add two more as she singled home Getz and Tobler. Getz and Tobler each had two hits in the win.
