OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (6-2) took down the No. 12 St. Lawrence Saints (3-3) in a tight gritty battle, 11-10, to conclude the Inaugural Callum Robinson Mustang Classic on Saturday evening in Mustang Stadium.
The Saints came out hot starting with two goals in the contest, but
Andrew Searing and
Hunter Bryant each replied with an unassisted goal to tie the game up 2-2. St. Lawrence replied with two more goals to close out the first quarter, while opening the second quarter with two more goals to slot a 6-2 lead over Stevenson. The Mustangs rallied back and put three goals away before the half as
Gavin Gossen put two away and
Darrell Curtis netted one to trail the Saints 5-6 at half.
Stevenson came out ready to go in the second half.
Max Racich came out with back-to-back goals to put Stevenson ahead for the first time in the contest and slot a 7-6 game. The Saints replied to tie it at seven, but
Grant Zick put an eighth goal on the board for Stevenson with just under eight minutes left in the third. St. Lawrence replied once again to tie the contest, but Bryant and Taz Dalaney put away two more goals for Stevenson to post a 10-8 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the final quarter, the Saints came to fight back and tied the contest 10-10 with five minutes left on the clock. Curtis took advantage of an opportunity with 3:02 on the clock and netted the unassisted game-winning goal to lead Stevenson to the 11-10 win.
Zick slotted a four-point night with three assists and a goal, as Curtis tallied three points with two goals and an assist. Bryant, Gossen, and Racich each registered two goals on the night as Delaney and Searing netted a goal.
Tyler Merchant stood in goal for the Mustangs making 16 stops.
Stevenson prepares to host Maryland rival, No. 2 Salisbury, on Saturday evening. First face-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. under the lights of Mustang Stadium.
