Women’s Lacrosse falls to University of Rochester, Yarusso breaks career draw control record

SPARKS, Md. – The Stevenson women's lacrosse team (4-3) fell to the University of Rochester Yellow Jackets (2-2) 14-9 on Friday afternoon on Tierney Field at the U.S. Lacrosse Headquarters. Kara Yarusso broke the Stevenson women's lacrosse record for career-draw controls in the contest, now holding the record with 244. The record was previously held by Kaitlyn Kozlowski, class of 2022, with 236.
 
Erin Steinberg opened scoring at about the nine minute mark of the first quarter, followed by a Yellow Jackets goal to tie the game 1-1. The Mustangs followed with a three-goal string with goals from two goals Yarusso and one from Ava Treakle to make it a 4-1 game. Both teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the second quarter. As Rochester put away three goals and Olivia Galati and Yarusso each netted a goal for the Mustangs. Stevenson led the contest 6-5 at half.
 
Both teams put three goals away in the third quarter. Galati put away two goals for the Mustangs, as Steinberg put away one. The Mustangs led 9-8 heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Yellow Jackets put their foot on the gas and shut down Stevenson as they put away a string of six goals to take the 14-9 victory. 
 
Galati and Yarusso each had a four-point game with three goals and an assist each. Yarusso also had eight draw controls and broke the Stevenson women's lacrosse record for career-draw controls. Steinberg followed with two goals as Treakle slated one. Melina Primrose led the ground balls column with three, as Treakle also picked up five draw controls. Anna Johnston stood on goal making six saves in her 51 minutes in cage, as Regan Torbert snagged one save in her nine minutes on the field. 
 
The Mustangs debark on their spring break series to Panama City, Fla. and will face Nazareth on Monday. First draw is set for 10 a.m. CST / 11 a.m. EST.
