Softball runs record to 5-0 with sweep of Valley Forge

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson University softball team finished its four games in two days swing before Spring Break, remaining undefeated with a sweep of The University of Valley Forge on Thursday.

The Mustangs (5-0) only needed five innings to defeat the Patriots (2-10) in both games by scores of 15-2 and 12-1.

In game one, Stevenson broke open a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the third by scoring six in the bottom of the frame and seven in the bottom of the fourth en route to the win.

Mykaela Getz went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, while Rebecca Maiorano, Caylee Cliett and Sahara Ward each had two hits. Ward had an inside the park home run for the Mustangs.

Danielle Mills had a hit, but drove in three runs on the afternoon.

Grace Briggs got the win, striking out two and walking one in four innings of work. Angelica Gurevich struck out the side in the fifth to send the game.

In game two, Stevenson stormed out to a 9-0 lead after two innings and plated three in the fourth to end the game early.

Banging out 18 hits in the game, Sierra Williams was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI, while Teagan Kreshik was 3-for-3. Ward, Tessa Boswell each had two hits in the nightcap.

Gurevich got the win, going three innings not allowing a hit. She struck out six and walked none as she retired all nine batters she faced in a row. Lilly Tinker tossed two innings, striking out three.

Stevenson heads to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for a slate of games starting with University of Maine Presque Isle on Sunday.
