LANCASTER, Pa. – The Stevenson University softball team remained undefeated on the young season as the Mustangs (3-0) swept Lancaster Bible (5-4) on Wednesday.
Stevenson won the first game 4-3 and took the second game by an 8-5 score.
Game 1 – Stevenson 4, Lancaster Bible 3
Stevenson rallied in the first game, scoring three times in the top of the seventh to come back from a small 2-1 deficit.
The Mustangs tied the score at 2-all as Tessa Boswell singled to center scoring Maria Morsa, while Rebecca Henry would score on a sacrifice fly by Caylee Cliett. Boswell would score the fourth run of the game on an RBI single by Danielle Mills.
Cliett scored a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Sahara Ward. Ward finished with two hits on the day, while seven other Mustangs hit safely.
Ky Vaughn got the win, her first of the season. She threw seven innings, striking out three and walking two while allowing just one earned run.
Game 2 – Stevenson 8, Lancaster Bible 5
The Mustangs scored eight times over the last two innings en route to the sweep.
Trailing 3-0 heading into the fifth, Stevenson tied the score in the sixth as Boswell drew a walk that scored Rebecca Maiorano. Henry and Ava Stafursky would later score on a fielder's choice by Mills.
In the seventh, Stafursky singled home McKenzie Tobler to take a 4-3 lead, before Henry signled home Mya Lamp to make the score 5-3.
Mills had a single that score Morsa, but an error by the Charger left fielders allowed Boswell to score and Henry to give the Mustangs an 8-3 lead. Those two runs proved important as Lancaster Bible scored twice in the bottom half of the inning.
Starting pitcher Alexis Kirkessner then induced a pop up to short to end the game. Kirkessner, who also got her first win of the season, struck out nine and walked one while allowing just two earned runs in seven innings.
Tobler finished 3-for-4 on the day, while five other Mustangs hit safely.
Stevenson will host the University of Valley Forge on Thursday before heading to South Carolina for Spring Break.
