Mustangs set to face No. 4 SUNY Geneseo in NCAA First Round

GENESEO, N.Y. - The Mustangs will continue their historic 2025 campaign in the NCAA Division III Tournament as they are set to face SUNY Geneseo in the first round on Saturday, March 15. The matchup was announced during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday morning, and the bracket has been set.

SUNY Geneseo earned an automatic qualification after defeating No. 2 Utica in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) championship, securing their spot in the national tournament. Meanwhile, the Mustangs clinched their first-ever NCAA tournament berth with a dominant 4-1 victory over top-seeded Wilkes in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) championship game, earning both the conference title and an automatic bid.

In Saturday's MAC Championship game, the Mustangs set the tone early on opposing ice. First-year Aiden Lindley opened the scoring just two minutes into the game, netting his sixth goal of the season. Junior Caden Smith extended the lead with a power-play goal—his seventh of the year—off assists from junior Blake Benson and senior Evan Beers.

Wilkes cut the deficit in the second period, but the Mustangs quickly responded. Junior John Musella capitalized on another power-play opportunity, burying the team's third goal with assists from Smith and Aidan Graham. Lindley sealed the victory with an empty-net goal, securing the 4-1 win and making history for the program.

MAC Championship MVP Ford DeLoss made 24 saves, helping lead the Mustangs to their first conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance.

With their fifth MAC championship and third straight title secured, the Mustangs now turn their focus to their first NCAA Tournament appearance and their upcoming game against SUNY Geneseo.
