Mustangs Make It Two Straight With 5-1 Win Over Nazareth

FAIRPORT, N.Y. – The Stevenson University men's ice hockey team continued its strong start to the 2026-27 season Saturday afternoon, earning a commanding 5-1 victory over Nazareth University. Five different Mustangs found the back of the net as Stevenson improved to 2-0 on the season.

The Mustangs wasted little time establishing momentum, striking just 3:55 into the opening period. Aiden Lindley opened the scoring with his first goal of the season off an assist from Gage Parillo, giving Stevenson an early 1-0 advantage.

Less than two minutes later, Logan Gallagher doubled the Mustangs' lead at the 5:30 mark, capitalizing on assists from Alexander Stephen and Joshua Swan. Gallagher's tally would stand as the eventual game-winner.

Stevenson continued its offensive surge late in the opening frame as Alexander Duhon found the back of the net at 16:49. Kasper Pohjala and Greg Spitznagel collected assists on the play, sending the Mustangs into the first intermission with a commanding 3-0 advantage.

Despite a scoreless second period, Stevenson maintained control of the contest, outshooting Nazareth 11-6 in the frame. The Mustangs continued to generate offensive opportunities, including an attempt from Spitznagel that struck the pipe at the 14:56 mark. Defensively, Stevenson held strong, successfully killing off a late Nazareth power play to preserve its three-goal cushion heading into the final period.

The Mustangs wasted no time extending their lead in the third period, as Parillo scored just 17 seconds into the frame. Lindley and Makai Tarjamo earned assists on the play, pushing Stevenson's advantage to 4-0.

Stevenson added its fifth and final goal at the 6:34 mark when Tarjamo capitalized on assists from Stephen and Lindley. The goal marked Tarjamo's second of the season and extended the Mustangs' lead to 5-0.

Nazareth broke through at 11:14 of the third period as they scored off assists, cutting the deficit to 5-1. However, the Mustangs' defense held firm throughout the remainder of the contest to secure their second consecutive victory.

Between the pipes, Louis Finnegan delivered a strong performance for Stevenson, recording 20 saves across 60 minutes to earn the win. The Mustangs held a 32-21 advantage in shots on goal and successfully killed off both Nazareth power-play opportunities.

Lindley led Stevenson's offensive efforts with a goal and two assists for a three-point performance. Parillo and Tarjamo each contributed a goal and an assist, while Stephen dished out two assists. Swan also made an impact in the faceoff circle, winning 10 of his 15 draws.

With the victory, Stevenson improves to 2-0, while Nazareth falls to 1-1 on the season.

The Mustangs return to action on Friday when they travel to Body Zone Arena to take on Albright at 7 p.m.
