Mustangs net season-high seven goals in senior day MAC victory over Hood

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson Women's Hockey hosted Hood College tonight in their final meeting of the regular season. The Mustang offense would shine in tonight's contest as they racked up a season-best seven goals to earn a 7-4 victory on senior day.

Senior Maddie Silverman started the Mustangs' scoring spree on the power-play halfway through the first period, citing assists from sophomore Carleigh Barwick and junior Meghan Croyle.

Within two minutes, it was first year Jalyn Jones' turn to ink her name on the scoresheet as she scored for the second time this season via seniors Katie May and Megan Swick. In the very same shift just ten seconds later, Swick would intercept a Hood pass and score her sixth goal on the year in a solo effort.

Hood was able to slow the Mustangs down temporarily with a late goal, but the Mustangs made sure to cap the period off with a goal of their own. Junior Maggie Dean notched her second goal of the season with the assist going to sophomore Lola Russell.

Stevenson was the lone team to score in the second period, doing so twice thanks to sophomore Abby Smith and Meghan Croyle. Smith was assisted by classmates Carleigh Barwick and Lola Russell while Croyle's goal came via Dean.

Hood scored two straight goals at the halfway point of the third period, but Barwick scored to break up their momentum. The goal was her team-leading eighth of the season and Lola Russell earned her third assist of the night on the play.

The Mustangs combined for 16 points, four of which came from the senior class. In net, senior Olivia DeGuire made 37 saves, bringing her season total to 555.

The victory elevates the Mustangs to 7-12-1 overall and 5-10-1 in conference play. They look to earn another MAC victory on Monday, February 10 when they host Neumann University.
