Mustangs notch overtime MAC victory over Knights

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson Women's Hockey hosted Neumann University this afternoon in a MAC contest. Though the Knights would strike first, the Mustangs would battle back, eventually coming away with an overtime victory.

After a scoreless first period, Neumann got on the board just two minutes into the second, but the Mustangs were quick to respond. Sophomore Abbey Smith would net her third goal of the season just five minutes later, capitalizing on the play set up by classmates Carleigh Barwick and Emma DeMan.

Using their momentum, the Mustangs struck again on the power-play, and it was Abby Smith once more for her fourth goal and 13th point of the season. Assisting Smith this time were DeMan once more as well as graduate student Gracie Payne.

The lone goal of the third period came from Neumann to knot the game at two, forcing overtime.

Stevenson earned a power-play just two minutes in, and Gracie Payne would prove to be the hero with her long range goal to win it for the Mustangs. The goal was Payne's fourth on the year, while Emma DeMan earned her third assist of the day and eighth of the season setting her up along with first year Kira Otto.

DeMan also won a game-high ten draws in the circle, tying with graduate student Katie May.

In net, junior Maggie Sehnert made 25 stops, including 14 in the third period.

The Mustangs' next matchup is slated for Friday, February 14th at 7 p.m. when they host Alvernia University.
