Mustangs come up short against Golden Wolves

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson Women's Hockey hosted Alvernia University tonight for their final meeting of the regular season. Though the Mustangs scored first, a two-goal second period by the Golden Wolves would prove sufficient as Alvernia came away with a 2-1 victory.

The first period went scoreless for 17 minutes before sophomore Emma DeMan found the back of the net thanks to a pass from classmate and linemate Abby Smith. DeMan's goal was her seventh on the season while Smith's assist was a team-leading tenth.

After a 13-shot first period, the Golden Wolves brought more fire power in the second to add 17 more. Two of their 17 were goals, coming at the 11 and 15 minute marks.

In net for the Mustangs, senior Olivia DeGuire made 35 saves, bringing her season total to 590.

Offensively, DeMan led with four shots, followed by Meghan Croyle, Franki Cappello, Kira Otto, Megan Swick, Carleigh Barwick, and Lola Russell notched four shots each.

Croyle led Stevenson centers with 10 wins in the circle, followed by Katie May with seven and DeMan with six.

The loss puts the Mustangs at 8-13-1 overall and 6-11-1 in conference play. They look to notch a MAC victory tomorrow night with their road trip up to historic Hersheypark Arena to face off against Lebanon Valley College.
