OWINGS MILLS, Md.— The Stevenson women's basketball team held a white out game and celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day alongside York College of Pa. on Wednesday evening. The Mustangs fell to York late in the contest 53-60.
Erin Dixon put the Mustangs on the board with back-to-back layups to put Stevenson ahead 4-0 less than three minutes in. York responded with five points, before
Kalea Wynter put up a layup to put the Mustangs back ahead. Both teams continued battling for the remainder of the quarter, yet Stevenson slotted the 13-10 lead at the end of the first.
Janiya Ennis then put up the first basket of the second quarter, followed by a three-pointer from
Emori Jeselskis to put Stevenson ahead 18-10. The Mustangs kept pushing offensively and put up 18 points to secure a 31-23 lead heading into halftime.
In the third and fourth quarter, the Spartans battled back. York came out after the half and netted 22 points, while holding the Mustangs to 14. In the final quarter, the Spartans managed to net another 15 points and help Stevenson to eight, to secure a 53-60 win over the Mustangs.
Ennis led Stevenson in the points column with 12 on the evening while grabbing four rebounds and two steals.
Janie Smith had a 10-point contest for Stevenson, as
Erin Dixon netted nine points and led the team with nine rebounds.
Stephenae Lawrence had eight rebounds, while contributing four points.
The Mustangs are back in action on Saturday in Owings Mills Gymnasium as they host Eastern in MAC Commonwealth play. The contest is set to begin at 1 p.m.
