OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson women's basketball team registered a huge 82-50 win over Eastern on Monday evening in MAC Commonwealth action.
Janiya Ennis led the Mustangs with 13 points on the night as
Erin Dixon slotted 11, and
Tessa Boswell and
Elia Richardson contributed 10.
Dixon opened scoring in the contest with an assist from Ennis. Eastern responded, but Boswell retaliated with a three-pointer to begin to open Stevenson's lead over the Eagles. Eastern kept fighting, but the Mustangs kept producing offensively to slot a 18-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Mustangs kept their foot on the gas as Ennis opened Stevenson's lead to nine, to make it a 24-15 game with 8:32 left in the half. The Eagles battled back, but the Mustangs held on to a four-point lead to notch a 31-27 game at half.
Emori Jeselskis started off the third quarter hot for Stevenson with a three-pointer off a ball from Ennis and followed with four straight baskets from Stevenson to notch a 15-point lead. Although Eastern tried to fight back, the Mustangs remained hot, extending their lead up to 25 points, heading into the final quarter with a 61-36 score. In the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Eagles came out to try to cut down scoring gap, but with under five minutes to play, Stevenson took off to extend its lead and notch a 32-point victory over Eastern, 82-50.
Ennis led the points column with 13 and assists column with seven and snatched four rebounds. Dixon followed with 11 points on the evening while grabbing two steals. Boswell and Richardson both posted 10-point nights, as Boswell led the rebounds column with eight.
Janie Smith had netted nine points while snagging five rebounds, as
Kalea Wynter tallied eight points and seven rebounds.
Stevenson will be back in action on Wednesday as the Mustangs travel to face Hood in MAC Commonwealth action. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Frederick, Md.
