Mustang dealt loss in tight duel with Blazers

FREDERICK, Md. – The Stevenson women's basketball team fell to the Hod Blazers 50-54 on Thursday evening. Janiya Ennis led the squad with a 14-point evening, as Erin Dixon followed with 11.
 
Ennis opened scoring in the contest with a layup 11 seconds in followed by a three-pointer from Tessa Boswell to put the Mustangs up 5-0 early in the game. Hood replied, and although Stevens continued to produce offensively, the Blazers posted a 15-17 lead heading into the next quarter. In the second quarter, the battle between the Mustangs and Blazers continued, but Hood managed to keep its lead to secure a 25-30 game at halftime. 
 
In the third quarter, Ennis and Boswell again opened scoring for the Mustangs to notch Stevenson at 29 points. Although Stevenson came out hot in attempt to close the five-point score gap, Hood reopened their lead to a 10-point gap. In the last four minutes of the quarter, the Mustangs again closed Hood's gap with baskets from Dixon, Destiny Towns, and Janie Smith to make it a 41-42 game. In the final quarter, Ennnis opened scoring and put up a pair of free-throws to put the Mustangs ahead 43-42. The duel between both teams continued, but Hood was the team that walked with the win.
 
Ennis led with a 14-point night with three rebounds and two steals as Dixon posted 11 points with five rebounds and a steal. Boswell and Towns both a six-point night with six rebounds apiece. Stephenae Lawrence led the rebounds column with seven on the evening.
 
The Mustangs will remain on the road as they travel to face Albright in conference play on Saturday at 1 p.m.
