OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Steven women's lacrosse team (3-1) claimed a 15-6 win over Ursinus on Wednesday evening. During the contest,
Kara Yarusso played in her 76
th career game, breaking the record of 75 games previously held by Kellie McLaughlin (2013-2016).
Isabelle VanEmburgh slotted her 100
th career-point with an assist with 5:42 on the clock in the second quarter.
Regan Torbert played a stellar game in net making 12 stops.
The Mustangs opened the contest with a five-goal run in the first quarter, while holding Ursinus scoreless.
Sophia Murray put away the first goal of the contest, as VanEmburgh followed with the second goal off a pass from
Maddie Kline. With 7:31 left on the clock,
Erin Steinberg put away the third goal for Stevenson, as Yarusso followed with a fourth goal with an assist from VanEmburgh. Steinberg capped off the Mustangs' 5-0 lead at the end of the first quarter with an assist from Yarusso.
Ursinus (1-2) opened scoring of the second quarter with two back-to-back goals, but Stevenson replied with three-straight goals.
Olivia Galati put away two as
Kellyann Coccia netted Stevenson's eighth goal off a ball from
Katherine Friedman to slot the 8-2 lead at halftime.
The Mustangs started the third quarter how they left off in the second, with three-straight goals. Steinberg put the ninth goal away, followed by goals from Coccia and Yarusso. Ursinus responded with their third goal, as Murray replied with another to make it a 12-3 game.
In the fourth quarter, Ursinus put up two goals on the board to make it a 12-5 game, but Yarusso netted three goals while the Stevenson defense held the Bears to one more goal to secure the 15-6 win.
Yarusso led the Mustangs with a six-point night of five goals and one assist while scooping up five draw controls. Steinberg, Murray, and VanEmburgh followed with a four-point games. Steinberg netted a hattrick and an assist while picking up three ground balls, as Murray posted two goals and two assists, and VanEmburgh netted a goal and three assists. Coccia and Galati each slotted two goals and an assist apiece for three points.
Regan Torbert made 12 saves and picked up a ground ball while in net, as
Anna Johnston picked up a save as she rounded out the game in net.
The Mustangs will prepare to host St. Mary's College of Maryland on Wednesday, Mar. 5 in Mustang Stadium at 7 p.m.
