OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson men's lacrosse squad (2-1) fell 10-13 to the No. 5 Christopher Newport Captains on Saturday evening under the lights.
Max Racich led the team with a hat trick on the evening, as
Grant Zick and
Hunter Bryant each had a two-point night.
Christopher Newport opened scoring on the evening with two man-up goals due to a non- releasable penalty at 6:06 and 5:51 in the first quarter.
Taz Delaney responded with about four minutes on the clock with an unassisted goal.
Max Racich then closed out the first quarter with a goal off a ball from
Darrell Curtis to make it a 2-2 game.
The Captains again opened scoring with a goal at 13:42, but
Grant Zick replied about a minute later with an unassisted goal. With about 10 minutes to play CNU put another goal away to make it a 3-4 game heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, Christopher Newport put away two goals at 13:44 and 12:26.
Hunter Bryant put away an unassisted goal to put Stevenson on the board in the second half. The Captains then replied with a goal at the six minute mark.
Jack Scaliti then put a fifth goal away for Stevenson before CNU went on a two-goal run. Racich retaliated with a two-goal run of his own to make it a 7-9 game. CNU netted their tenth goal of the contest with 1:57 on the clock, as
Gavin Gossen put a goal away off a ball from
Brennan McKneely. The Captains capped off the quarter with an unassisted goal to make it a 8-11 game at the end of the third.
Christopher Newport put away the first goal of the final quarter with 10:51 left in the contest, before
Grant Zick and
Dillon Linhardt put away a goal apiece for Stevenson to slot a 10-12 game. Christopher Newport put away one more goal in the contest to cap off the 10-13 win over the Mustangs.
Racich led with a three-goal night, as Zick put away two goals and Bryant netted a goal and posted an assist. Delaney, Linhardt, Gossen, and Scaliti all contributed one goal in the contest.
Tyler Merchant stood in goal and made 16 saves for Stevenson.
The Mustangs prepare to host Catholic on Wednesday night in Mustang Stadium. First face-off is slated for 7 p.m.
