OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson women's basketball fell to No. 15 Messiah on Tuesday evening, 31-60.
Stephenae Lawrence put up the first basket of the contest with an assist from
Kalea Wynter. The Falcons then followed with a 21-point scoring streak to post a 2-21 game at the end of first quarter.
Kalea Wynter broke Messiah's scoring streak with a jumper off a pass from
Tessa Boswell about a minute and a half into the second quarter. In the second quarter, Stevenson game out strong on both ends of the court and held Messiah to only seven points while netting 10 to head into halftime with a 12-28 contest.
Messiah came out in the second half hot putting up 10 points before
Nadia Ferguson broke it up with a made free-throw. Stevenson continued to try to chip away at the Falcons' lead but at the send of the third quarter it was a 18-47 game. In the final quarter, Stevenson came out stronger offensively putting up 13 points, but Messiah still walked with the 31-60 victory.
Lawrence led the points column with six on the evening with six rebounds as
Erin Dixon,
Janiya Ennis, and Boswell put up four points. Wynter led the squad in the rebound column with eight on the evening, as Boswell followed with seven.
The Mustangs prepare for their season finale against Alvernia on Saturday afternoon. The team will be taking a moment to recognize their senior class prior to the 1 p.m. tip-off.
