TYSONS, Va. – The Stevenson University baseball team opened its 2025 season on Sunday, as the Mustangs dropped a pair of games to Marymount.
The Saints (4-0) defeated Stevenson 16-3 in game one, while the Mustangs (0-2) saw the Saints score late in the second half of the doubleheader losing 4-3.
Game 1
Marymount darted out to a 5-0 lead in the first two innings, before Stevenson got on the board in the third on a two-run home run by
Nick Griffin that also scored
Jaylon Surell. Stevenson would score its third run in the sixth as
Collin Palmieri scored on a bases loaded walk.
Griffin, Palmieri and
Matt Perri collected hits, while
Brandon Perillo had a bases-loaded walk to get a RBI.
Jake Treasure took the loss, falling to 0-1 with one walk and one strikeout in 1.2 innings of work.
Game 2
Stevenson, trailing 2-0 after one inning, took 3 -2 lead in the third as
John Padousis singled to score Griffin.
Mason Gove and
Graham Sears had bases loaded walks to bring home
Kaige Garrity and
Liam Houghton for the other runs in the inning.
Marymount would plate two in the fourth, as Stevenson could not get a base runner after the fourth.
Griffin had two hits, while Garrity, Padousis and Sears each hit safely.
John Delgado struck out six and walked three in 3.1 innings of work.
Ari Lonstein allowed one hit in 1.1 innings of relief while
Sommers Turner struck out two in 1.1 innings.
Stevenson is scheduled to take on first-year program Notre Dame of Maryland University this weekend. Friday's game – NDMU's first – will be played in Columbia, Md., at 2 p.m., while the Saturday's game will take place at the Ripken Complex in Aberdeen, Va., at 4 p.m. Both are weather permitting.
