OWINGS MILLS, Md. – In its 2025 home opener, the Stevenson University women's lacrosse team broke open a 5-4 game at intermission with a six-goal second half in an 11-6 win over Juniata (0-1) Friday night.
The Mustangs, who were receiving votes in the recent IWLCA poll, (1-1) had a 36-13 shot advantage and forced 16 Eagle turnovers in the victory.
Kara Yarusso continued to rewrite the record books, as she scored four goals on the night to lead all Mustang scorers. Her last goal, the 172 of her career, puts her one behind Marissa Meikeljohn for the school record for career goals.
Olivia Galati had three goals and one assist with
Erin Steinberg,
Maddie Kline,
Kellyann Coccia and
Sophia Murray all scoring for Stevenson.
Murray was a force defensively, getting six draw controls and causing four turnovers. Yarusso had five draw controls and four caused turnovers.
Regan Torbert made two saves in the first 30 minutes, while
Anna Johnston made three saves in the second half.
Leading 5-4 at intermission, Stevenson and Juniata traded goals before the Mustangs went on a 5-0 scoring run to take an 11-5 lead with 11:11 left as Murray assisted on a goal from Coccia. Yarusso had two goals during the run, with Galati and Steinberg each scoring.
Stevenson will travel to Washington College next Saturday.
