18th-ranked Men's Lacrosse vanquishes Muhlenberg, 18-6

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Stevenson University men's lacrosse team, ranked 18th in Division III, moved to 2-0 on the young season as the Mustangs defeated Muhlenberg (0-1) 18-6 on Friday night in non-conference play.

Gavin Gossen had five goals to lead the Mustangs, with Darrell Curtis collecting six points on four goals and two assists. Max Racich, who was honored by the USILA for his performance last week in an opening win over Ohio Wesleyan, had a team-high seven points on four goals and three assists.

Brennan McKneely scored two goals while Hunter Bryant, Sam Edwards and Robbie Vanderklugt each scored in the win.

Connor Dunay was 11-for-23 at the X, while collecting four ground balls. Nik Leahan also had four ground balls. Eskander Ben Aissa had three caused turnovers for Stevenson.
Tyler Merchant made 13 saves in goal with Nicholas Parolin getting a save.

After spotting the Mules the first goal of the game, Stevenson scored the next three as Bryant scored on an EMO with 6:08 left, followed by Curtis' first goal at 3:45 with Gossen adding his first 22 seconds for a 3-1 lead.

After Muhlenberg cut the Mustang lead to 3-2, Edwards and Curtis added back-to-back tallies for a 5-2 first quarter lead.

Stevenson owned all the scoring in the second quarter, with Gossen having two of his goals in the second stanza. His third tally of the game with 4:16 left in half put Stevenson up 8-2.

After Muhlenberg scored one goal with 12:56 left in the third, Stevenson scored the next four to take a 12-3 after three quarters. McKneely's goal at 8:36 was a man-down goal, while Curtis scored on an EMO at 1:55 left in the third for a 12-3 lead.

Stevenson held Muhlenberg to 0-7 on extra-man opportunities and forced 24 turnovers.

The Mustangs will now prepare for sixth-ranked Christopher Newport, who is scheduled to come to Mustang Stadium on Saturday, February 22, at 7 p.m.
