OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson University men's basketball team staged a furious second half rally but fell short against Hood, 91-83 on Thursday night.
For the Mustangs (8-14, 2-9 MAC Commonwealth),
Cameron Smith had a career night scoring 27 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, while
Ronald Ayers had 24 including a team-high five three pointers.
Cameron Sapienza had 14 points for Stevenson.
For Hood (15-7, 8-3 MAC Commonwealth), Garrison Linton had 20 points with Garrett Cox scoring 18. Kullen Robinson netted 13 points.
Trailing by as much as 25 in the second half, Stevenson whittled the lead down to five at 80-75 when Sapienza hit a three with 2:45 left in the contest. After Hood went back up ten, Sapienza hit another three with 23 seconds left to get Stevenson within six at 89-83 but the Mustangs could not get any closer.
Stevenson heads to Albright on Saturday.
