READING, Pa. – The Stevenson men's ice hockey team (2-2) dealt a 5-3 loss to Alvernia (3-1) on Saturday evening.
Blake Benson opened scoring with assists from Jack Karlsson and John Musella at the 8:31 mark in the first period with a power play goal. Alvernia retaliated with two goals to take a 2-1 advantage into the second period.
Connor MacDonell tied the game for the Mustangs with an assist from Keenan Schneider in the second period, to make it an equal contest in the third period.
Alvernia scored early in the third period off a power play opportunity, but five minute later Matt Yeager tied the game 3-3 with an assist from Carson Galin. At the 10:24 mark, Caden Smith put a fourth goal up for the Mustangs before notching another three minutes later to secure the 5-3 victory for Stevenson.
Smith led the Mustangs with two goals, as Benson, MacDonell, and Yeager each contributed one. Musella and J. Karlsson each dished out two assists for Stevenson, as Jack Costabile, Benson, K. Schneider, and Galin handed out one. J. Karlsson and MacDonnell led the blocks column with two, as Louis Finnegan made 29 stops in his first start as a Mustang.
Stevenson will now turn its attention to Misericordia. Puck drop is set for 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
