Reading, Pa. (November 8) – The Stevenson Mustangs picked up another strong conference win on Saturday afternoon, defeating Albright 17–7 on the road behind a balanced offensive attack and a stifling defensive performance at Eugene L. Shirk Stadium.
After a scoreless opening quarter that saw both defenses hold firm, Stevenson broke through just before halftime. Quarterback
Todd Lattimore led an eight-play, 73-yard drive capped by a six-yard touchdown pass to
Stephen Tatum with just 35 seconds left in the half. Freshman kicker
Micah Veilleux's extra point gave the Mustangs a 7–0 lead heading into the locker room.
The Mustangs came out firing in the third quarter. On the second play from scrimmage, senior running back
Louis Clouser exploded through a gap and sprinted 47 yards to the end zone, doubling the lead to 14–0. After another defensive stand, Stevenson marched downfield again and Veilleux converted a 32-yard field goal to extend the cushion to 17–0 midway through the third.
Albright's lone score came late in the fourth quarter, capping a 99-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run. But the Mustang defense refused to let the Lions gain any more momentum, forcing a turnover on downs on Albright's final possession to close out the victory.
Clouser powered the Mustang offense with a career-best 250 rushing yards and a touchdown on 31 carries. Lattimore completed 12 of 18 passes for 122 yards and a score, connecting with seven different receivers. On defense, Stevenson piled up six sacks, led by
Terae Franklin's 1.5 and
Matthew Berry's key stops at linebacker.
With the win, Stevenson improves to 6–3 overall and 5–3 in MAC Commonwealth play as they continue to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season for their game against Eastern on Saturday, November 15 at 1 p.m.
