Purcell nets game-winner to lift Mustangs to MAC Commonwealth Championship

YORK, Pa. – The No. 3 Stevenson women's soccer team (9-5-5) earned a 2-1 victory over No. 2 York (Pa.) in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals on Tuesday evening, advancing to the conference championship match.

The Spartans struck first in the 28th minute, but Isabella Pecunes equalized shortly after with a goal off a free kick. York continued to apply pressure, outshooting the Mustangs 11-2 in the first half, yet goalkeeper Isabella Serano anchored the Stevenson defense to keep the score level at 1-1 heading into halftime.

Both teams battled through a competitive second half until Kamille Purcell delivered the game-winner in the 82nd minute, finishing a feed from Karly Sheahan to seal the 2-1 win.

Despite being outshot overall, Isabella Serano stood tall in net with 11 saves to preserve the victory. Pecunes and Purcell each found the back of the net, while Sheahan added an assist.

The Mustangs now shift their focus to top-seeded Messiah for the MAC Commonwealth Championship on Saturday. Match time will be announced once finalized.
