Harrisonburg, Va. (November 25) - The Stevenson Mustangs left everything on the floor Tuesday night, pushing East Mennonite to overtime before slipping in a hard-fought 64-60 setback at Yoder Arena. Stevenson answered every EMU surge with poise and intensity, forcing an extra period after a dramatic closing stretch in regulation.
Stevenson opened the contest with strong ball movement and defensive pressure, building early momentum behind
Kendall Seguignol and
Kyle Luddy. Seguignol controlled the glass and attacked downhill, while Luddy knocked down timely perimeter shots to keep the Mustangs even through an evenly played first half.
The second half saw both teams trade leads in a tense back-and-forth affair. Luddy delivered one of the biggest moments of regulation, drilling a three-pointer with just over two minutes remaining to give Stevenson a slim lead.
David Pridgen's defensive intensity and
Noah Ihezue's activity in the passing lanes helped Stevenson disrupt EMU's late possessions, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.
With the Mustangs trailing by two in the final minute, Stevenson forced a tie and sent the contest to overtime at 60-60, completing a gutsy rally as both teams emptied their rotations.
In the extra period, defense dominated. Stevenson created stops early, but East Mennonite capitalized on second-chance opportunities and late free throws, edging ahead in the final seconds. The Mustangs continued fighting until the final horn, but EMU sealed the overtime win from the line.
Seguignol and Luddy each finished with 16 points to pace Stevenson, which out-rebounded East Mennonite 45-34 and controlled the paint with 32 interior points, reinforcing the Mustangs' physical presence throughout regulation and overtime.
Stevenson now turns its attention to a home rebound opportunity as the Mustangs host FDU-Florham on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m., looking to convert this gritty performance into a return to the win column.
