YORK, Pa. -
Denise Martinez secured a second place individual finish and a fifth place team result on the final day of events at the Spartan Invitational.
The Mustangs entered day three in sixth place with 261 points after a strong day two performance.
Day three opened with the first 1650-yard Freestyle of the season where
Charlotte Forte swam a time of 19:20.23 and secured sixth place.
Martinez followed up Forte's performance in the next event, the 200-yard Backstroke. The first-year from Silver Spring, Maryland, swam a team season-best and career-best 2:14.84 in the finals, securing a second place finish.
The 100-yard Freestyle followed the 200 Back.
Laila Umrani-Sanders was the highest placing Mustang as she recorded a time of 56.28 in the finals, finishing ninth. Similar to Martinez in the previous event, Umrani-Sander's time was a new team season-best and career-best.
Sophia Schultze took the the blocks next in the 200-yard Breaststroke. She finished seventh, the highest of all competing Mustangs, but it was her preliminary time of 2:38.21 that set a new team season-best.
Claire Price represented Stevenson in the 200-yard Butterfly. She finished seventh with a finals time of 2:35.91.
The final event of the invitational was the 400-yard Freestyle Relay. The Mustangs were represented by Martinez,
Eryn O'Brien,
Alexa Darak, and Umrani-Sanders. Stevenson secured fifth place and recorded a time of 3:51.76.
Darak and
Allison Fitzgerald participated in two time trials after the conclusion of scoring events. Fitzgerald set a new season person-best in the 100-yard Butterfly Time Trial, while Darak set a new team season-best in the 200 Fly Time Trial with a time of 2:24.16.
The Mustangs were able to climb one spot after day three, jumping Elizabethtown College, and finished in fifth with a total score of 392 points.
