REISTERSTOWN, Md. – The Stevenson men's ice hockey team (5-2-0 overall, 4-1-0 MAC) edged Arcadia (2-4-0 overall, 2-4-0 MAC) in a 4-3 overtime thriller on Saturday afternoon.
Arcadia opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 7:38 in the second period, adding another two minutes later to take a 2-0 lead. Blake Benson put the Mustangs on the board with a power-play tally in the final minute of the period, cutting the deficit in half.
Arcadia extended its lead to 3-1 at the 13:45 mark of the third, but Stevenson responded quickly as Matt Gough scored less than a minute later off assists from Matt Yeager and Jack Karlsson. With under four minutes remaining, Aiden Lindley netted the equalizer to send the game into overtime.
Just 32 seconds into the extra frame, Caden Smith buried the game-winner off feeds from John Musella and Karlsson.
Musella led the Mustangs with a three-assist performance, while Smith and Karlsson each added two points. Benson, Gough, and Yeager each recorded one point. Goaltender Jake Hugessen earned the win with a 28-save effort.
The Mustangs now shift their focus to (RV) Norwich on Friday in the LayerEight Shootout. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Kreitzberg Arena in Northfield, Vt.
