The Stevenson men's basketball team pieced together a gritty road performance to earn a 67-55 victory over St. Mary's (MD), improving to 5-0 on the season. After a tightly contested first half, Stevenson took control with a dominant second period, pouring in 42 points and holding the Seahawks to 27 to pull away down the stretch.
St. Mary's struck first with a pair of early three-pointers, but the Mustangs quickly settled in behind energy on both ends.
Myles Jackson opened Stevenson's scoring with a layup off a turnover, and
Kyle Luddy followed with a steal and finish to keep pace.
David Pridgen showcased athleticism with a dunk midway through the first half, while
Kendall Seguignol and
Kole Beaman connected on transition buckets to prevent the Seahawks from building momentum. Despite solid outside shooting by St. Mary's, Stevenson trailed only 28-25 at the break after consistently winning the battle inside.
The second half belonged to the Mustangs. Jackson ignited the run with back-to-back fast-break layups, including one off his own steal, giving Stevenson its first lead. Seguignol added a highlight dunk and later buried a three as the Mustangs stretched the margin.
Luddy continued to impact the game on both ends with finishes at the rim and strong rebounding, while
Andre Brooks knocked down a key triple to push the advantage into double digits. Stevenson's pressure defense forced turnovers and fueled easy points, allowing the Mustangs to steadily build separation in the final 10 minutes, leading to the 67-55 victory.
The Mustangs will look to carry that momentum into their next contest at Eastern Mennonite University on Tuesday, Nov. 25, with a 7:00 pm tip-off.
