REISTERSTOWN, Md. – The Stevenson men's ice hockey team (4-2 overall, 3-1 MAC) powered past Arcadia (2-3 overall, 2-3 MAC) with an 8-2 victory on Friday evening.
Caden Smith opened the scoring just one minute into the contest off assists from Jack Costabile and John Musella. Arcadia answered at the 12:50 mark to send the game into the first intermission tied 1-1.
Arcadia briefly took a 2-1 lead less than three minutes into the second period, but the Mustangs responded with seven unanswered goals. Blake Benson converted a power-play opportunity in the 12th minute from Musella and Smith, followed by another power-play goal from Matt Yeager off feeds from Benson and Musella. With under a minute remaining in the period, Joshua Swan netted his first collegiate goal, assisted by Aidan McDowell and Lucas Karlsson, giving Stevenson a 4-2 advantage heading into the third.
The Mustangs continued to dominate in the final frame. Musella extended the lead with the team's fifth goal before Yeager added his second of the night at the 17:01 mark. Jack Day tallied his first collegiate goal during a power-play chance at 18:42, and Carson Galin capped the scoring with his first collegiate goal off a setup from Matt Gough with 34 seconds remaining.
Musella led the way with a four-point performance on a goal and three assists, while Benson added three points. Swan, Yeager, Gough, Costabile, Galin, and Smith each recorded two points, and McDowell, Day, and Lucas Karlsson added one apiece. Goaltender Ford DeLoss made 18 saves to secure the win.
Stevenson and Arcadia will meet again on Saturday to conclude the weekend series. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m.
