REISTERSTOWN, Md. – The Stevenson women's ice hockey team (0-2) fell to SUNY Canton (2-0) by a 5-1 score on Saturday afternoon.
The Roos opened the scoring at the 11-minute mark of the first period to take a 1-0 lead into the second. SUNY Canton doubled its advantage midway through the second period with a shorthanded goal, but Emma DeMan responded for the Mustangs with a power-play tally at 11:56 to make it a 2-1 game. The Roos answered late in the frame with a power-play goal to carry a 3-1 lead into the final period.
In the third, SUNY Canton added two more goals to seal the 5-1 victory.
Stevenson held the edge in faceoffs, winning 30 of 57, led by DeMan's 16-for-23 performance. DeMan recorded the lone Mustang goal, with Kylie Chandler and Meghan Croyle picking up the assists. Maggie Sehnert finished with 33 saves in net for Stevenson.
The Mustangs now turn their attention to MAC opponent, Alvernia, with puck drop set for 7 p.m. on Friday.
