Women’s Ice Hockey hits milestones in shootout victory over Hood

REISTERSTOWN, Md. – The Stevenson women's ice hockey team (0-4-1, 0-2-1 MAC) skated to a 3-3 tie with Hood (0-1-2, 0-1-2 MAC) on Friday night before securing a 1-0 edge in the shootout.

Kiana Baker opened the scoring just 25 seconds into the second period, netting her first collegiate goal off assists from Meghan Croyle and Carleigh Barwick. At the 9:23 mark, Kayla Suders followed with her own first collegiate tally, set up by Maggie Dean. Hood responded with a goal in the final seconds of the period, trimming the Mustang lead to 2-1 heading into the third.

The Blazers tied the game 11 minutes into the third period, but Abby Smith regained the lead for Stevenson just one minute later, assisted by Emma DeMan and Jalyn Jones. Hood struck again at 18:43 to even the score at 3-3 and send the contest to overtime.

After a scoreless overtime frame, the game proceeded to a shootout, where Barwick converted the lone goal to give the Mustangs the shootout victory.

Eight Mustangs notched points in the contest, while goaltender Maggie Sehnert turned away 38 shots.

Stevenson will travel to Frederick on Saturday to face Hood in the second game of the weekend series. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
