Mayfield-Rice nets goal to lead Mustangs to MAC Commonwealth victory over Alvernia

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson women's soccer team (5-2-4, 1-0 MACC) earned a 1-0 victory over Alvernia (3-5-3, 0-1 MACC) on Saturday afternoon.

The Mustangs controlled play throughout the match, outshooting the Golden Wolves 19-5 overall and 8-2 on goal. In the 35th minute, Jalynn Mayfield-Rice broke through with an unassisted strike to give Stevenson the lead — a goal that ultimately stood as the game-winner.

GoalkeeperIsabella Serano recorded two saves to secure the shutout victory. Kamille Purcell led the team with three shots on goal, followed by Isabella Pecunes with two.

The Mustangs will prepare to face Maryland rival, Salisbury, on Tuesday, October 7. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m. on the Owings Mills East pitch.
