Men’s Soccer opens MAC Commonwealth play with 2-0 shutout win over Alvernia

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson men's soccer team (6-4-1, 1-0 MACC) earned a 2-0 shutout victory over Alvernia (2-7-2, 0-1 MACC) on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams battled throughout a competitive first half, with Stevenson controlling possession and maintaining pressure in the offensive zone. The Mustangs outshot the Golden Wolves 8-2 in the opening period but entered halftime locked in a 0-0 tie.

In the second half, Jacob Greene broke through in the 62nd minute, finding the back of the net off a feed from Ellis Amo to put Stevenson ahead 1-0. Just six minutes later, Owen Haviland doubled the lead, scoring in the 68th minute from an assist by Zack Reightler to secure the 2-0 victory.

The Mustangs held a commanding 17-5 advantage in total shots and an 11-1 edge on goal. Greene and Haviland each finished with two points from their goals, while Amo and Reightler added assists. Goalkeeper Nolen Olson-Warwick earned the clean sheet, making one save on the afternoon.

Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, October 11, when the Mustangs travel to Albright for their next MAC Commonwealth matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
