ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Stevenson men's soccer team (9-4-2 Overall, 3-0-1 MACC) edged the Eastern Eagles (5-9-1 Overall, 1-3-0 MACC) with a 3-2 victory on Wednesday afternoon.
Eastern opened the scoring in the 40th minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime, but the Mustangs came out firing in the second half. Gianfranco Vitella converted a penalty kick in the 66th minute to tie the match, and less than a minute later, Gaston Magrinat-Valdes scored off a feed from Ellis Amo and Tyler Wood to give Stevenson a 2-1 advantage. Magrinat-Valdes struck again in the 71st minute, finishing a pass from Carter Gourley to extend the lead to 3-1. Eastern responded with a goal in the 77th minute, but the Mustangs held strong to secure the 3-2 win.
The Eagles outshot the Mustangs 20-15 overall, though Stevenson held a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. Magrinat-Valdes recorded a four-point performance with two goals, while Vitella added two points. Amo, Gourley, and Wood each tallied an assist, and goalkeeper Nolen Olson-Warwick made four saves in the win.
The Mustangs return to action on Saturday, hosting Messiah at 4 p.m.
