Owings Mills, Md. (October 18)- – The Stevenson men's soccer team delivered a dominant second-half performance to power past Widener, 3-0, on Saturday night at Owings Mills East. The Mustangs tallied all three of their goals after halftime to remain unbeaten in conference play and improve to 8-4-2 overall, 2-0-1 in the MAC Commonwealth.
After a scoreless opening half highlighted by several key stops from goalkeeper
Nolen Olson-Warwick, the Mustangs came alive early in the second. In the 51st minute,
Gianfranco Vitella buried a penalty kick to break the deadlock and give Stevenson a 1-0 advantage.
Just six minutes later,
Ellis Amo extended the lead, finishing a well-placed ball from
Patrick Caulden to make it 2-0. The Mustangs continued to apply pressure, controlling possession and keeping Widener pinned deep in their own half.
In the 76th minute,
Jacob Greene put the match out of reach, slotting home a strike off assists from Caulden and Vitella to seal the 3-0 victory.
Defensively, Stevenson was stout throughout the night. Olson-Warwick recorded six saves en route second straight shutout of the season, while Greene and
Landon Eaton anchored a back line that limited Widener to just seven shots on goal.
With the win, Stevenson improves to 7-1 at home this season and continues to climb the MAC standings. The Mustangs return to action on Wednesday, October 22, when they travel to face Eastern for another key conference match up at 3:30pm.
