OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The No. 20 Stevenson field hockey team (13-2 overall, 2-1 MACC) shut out Eastern (7-7 overall, 0-3 MACC) with a 4-0 victory on Friday.
Hailey Mertz opened the scoring in the third minute with a goal off a penalty corner, assisted by Lauren Schulz and Kailen Hibshman. Hibshman extended the lead in the 23rd minute with a successful penalty stroke, giving the Mustangs a 2-0 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, Hibshman found the back of the net again in the 45th minute, capitalizing on another penalty corner assisted by Ava DiBonaventura. Just two minutes later, Gracyn Catalano added an unassisted goal to seal the 4-0 win.
The Mustangs outshot Eastern 20-6 overall, including a 15-4 edge on cage. Hibshman led the offense with a five-point performance on two goals and an assist, while Mertz and Catalano each added a goal. In goal, Jordan Vradenburgh earned the start, making one save through three quarters, while Ollie Winterle stopped three shots in the fourth.
Stevenson will return to action on Wednesday evening, hosting No. 22 York (Pa.) at 6 p.m.
